How ECU remapping works on a diesel Volkswagen Jetta

Diesel engines respond strongly to remapping because the ECU controls injection quantity, injection timing and turbo boost pressure. Re-calibrating those maps typically brings the biggest improvement in mid-range torque, which is what you feel when overtaking or towing.

For reference, TDI is the Volkswagen Group name for its turbocharged direct-injection diesel engines.
